
LSU Meet Brings Out Best in Bulls

BATON ROUGE - - At the LSU Alumni Gold meet, the University of South Florida men's track and field team came away with five season-best marks and several top-10 finishes.
Mikese Morse felt extremely confident going into the triple jump event and the results backed it up. Morse set his personal record in the triple jump with a 47'7”. The sophomore from Tampa has qualified for three events at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships including the NCAA Regionals in the long jump.
In the pole vault competition, freshman Hunter Potalivo qualified for the conference meet after a 15'1.75” mark that set his personal record by over four inches. Potalivo toppled the BIG EAST qualifying standard and becomes the third Bull in the pole vault to do so.
Teammate Grant Scelzi also set his best pole vault of the season when he matched Potalivo's 15'1.75” height.
Junior Sean Young has been solid all year long in the pole vault and came away from LSU with a second place performance with a clearance of 16'1.75”.
The men's 4x400 relay team of Mikail Ebanks, D'Andre Ruff, Josh Wimbley and Carlan Arthur recorded the school's best time of the 2008 season when the quartet completed the event in 3:13.19.
During the 800m run, Trinidad and Tobago native Carlan Arthur moved into fifth on the USF all-time performance list with his personal best time of 1:51.47. Arthur's time is the fastest at the school since 1999 when Sheldon Collins broke the school record.
Greg Fontus contributed to the list of student-athletes to set their top time of the season when he completed the 200-meter-dash in 21.52. Fontus' previous best came at the UTEP Invitational when he posted a 21.63.
High jumpers Michael Kursteiner (6'8.75”) and Brian Zipler (6'6.75”) took third and fourth place respectively in the competition.
Sophomore thrower Tyler Perkins added to USF's top five finishers when he placed fourth in the discus throw after his 170'1” showing.
With the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships now less than two weeks away, the team will have its final regular season tune-up at the Drake Relays on April 25 in Des Moines, Iowa.
