GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? JoJo Medina's third inning home run was not enough as the University of South Florida softball team fell, 3-2, to the University of Central Florida Friday at the NCAA Regionals in Gainesville, Fla.
“We have to tighten up and play better team defense tomorrow,” head coach Ken Eriksen said. “We didn't take advantage of some opportunities we had and it's just something that we always have to do.”
With two outs and senior Aya Nakajima on third, Medina delivered the two-RBI home run, her eighth of the season, to break the scoreless game and put the Bulls up 2-0.
Nakajima reached first on a fielder's choice, stole second and reached third on a catcher's throwing error.
Medina finished 2-for-3, with two RBI and one run.
Courtney Mosch kept the Knights hitless through three innings before a walk and a pair of hits put a run on the board in the fourth inning.
The Knights took the 3-2 lead when senior pitcher Allison Kime's left field-triple added two runs in the sixth frame.
Mosch and Kime pitched complete games for their respective teams. The senior pitchers recorded similar statistics as each struck out six, and gave up five hits.
The Bulls will next play the loser of the Florida/Georgia Tech game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
