Fowler, Young Take B.E. Titles

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Two more University of South Florida student-athletes captured BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on the final day of the meet held at the Jumbo Elliott track on the campus of Villanova.
As a team, the Bulls wrapped up the meet in 7th place, with a team total of 63 points. The overall title went to Notre Dame who reeled in 122.50 points. UConn (105) and Louisville (93) rounded out the top three.
The Bulls improved over both last year's eighth place completion in Storrs, CT as well as total points, 50.50.
Glenn Fowler, a junior from Ocala, Fla., reached his goal by winning the 400-meter hurdles final in an exciting race that came down to the very end. Fowler clocked a time of 51.47, just 0.11 seconds faster than Villanova's Patrick Gazzini, to take the crown.
"Winning the 400-meter hurdles gave the team a boost and it helped out with our points," said Fowler. "I am just really happy I was able to help our team and know that I did the best that I could."
Fowler's outstanding weekend also included a fourth place showing in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles by posting 14.16, his season's best time. By placing in the top six, Fowler earned the all-conference status in both events while gaining a total of 15 points to add to USF's total.
Sean Young added another individual champion to USF's short history in the BIG EAST when won the pole vault by being the only competitor out of the 20-man field to clear the 5.05m (16'6.75”) bar. Young has been a fierce competitor all season long by regularly clearing well over 16 feet, and even set the second-best pole vault in school history of 17'1" earlier this spring.
In the 800-meters final, Carlan Arthur posted his personal record time for the third consecutive time, 1:49.53, en route to fifth place. Arthur established himself as an NCAA Regional qualifier with the performance and garners all-conference accolades.
The 4x100 men's relay team of Greg Fontus, D'Andre Ruff, Armante Marshall and Jordan Seabrook completed the race in 41.79. By finishing sixth, the Bulls picked up three more team points.
The Bulls will now prepare for the NCAA Regionals by heading to Atlanta this weekend to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
