TAMPA - The University of South Florida women's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Thursday night with a 76-72 loss to Tulane at the Sun Dome.

Sequoyah Griffin scored a career-high 21 points while Jessica Lawson and KaNeisha Saunders added 12 and 11 points in the loss.

Melissa Dalembert paced the way on the glass with nine rebounds to go along with nine points.

USF (7-3) got out of the gate quickly taking a 7-0 lead just over two minutes into the contest, and continued its solid offensive play through the midway point of the first half shooting 80.0 percent (8-10) from the field with 11:18 left before the break, holding a 22-14 edge.

The Bulls would extend its lead to what would be a game-high 13 points, 29-16, with 8:22 left in the half, when Griffin closed out a 5-0 run hitting a 10-foot jumper.

Tulane (6-2) would cut the lead to four, 34-30, with 1:30 left when Olivia Grayson connected on both ends of a one-and-one, only to have Janae Stokes close out the first half scoring draining one of her three treys on the night with 1:24 left in the first stanza to give USF a seven-point 37-30 lead at the intermission.

After the Bulls shot 68.2 percent (15-22) in the first half and the Green Wave a dismal 29.4 percent (10-34), Tulane would turn the tides and kick off the second half on a 26-10 run through the first nine minutes of the final half, taking a 56-47 lead on a three-point shot by Janique Kautsky with 11:11 left in the game.

The Green Wave would extend their lead to their game-high, 11 points, 62-51, on a layup by Roshaunda Barnes with 8:24 left.

The Bulls, however, would not go quietly using their own 15-5 run - after the Barnes layup - to cut the lead to one for the second time in three possessions, 67-66, with 3:38 left on the clock on a Griffin layup.

Tulane would ice the win scoring on five-of-six possessions down the floor, including a 7-8 clip from the charity stripe in the final 1:40.

For the game, USF got what it needed offensively hitting a season-high 55.8 percent (29-52) from the field, however it could not recover from its extremely sloppy play and season-high tying 27 turnovers. The Bulls' 27 miscues would contribute to 37 of the Green Wave's 76 points.

USF won't have any time think about the loss to Tulane as it gets right back to action on Daturday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. against North Carolina Central in the first round of the USF Shootout at the Sun Dome. East Carolina and Houston Baptist will kick off the event at 2 p.m.

The consolation game will be held on Sunday at noon with the championship game slated for 2 p.m.
