TAMPA ?Unlike their previous two games in the 2009 USF The Game Tournament, the University of South Florida Softball team was unable to get going offensively as the Bulls fell to the University of Albany by a score of 2-0.

One of the few bright spots for the Bulls was pitcher Kristen Gordon who was outstanding in relief for the Bulls. The junior from Cocoa, Fla. was lights out, pitching five and two third innings of shutout ball not giving up a hit, while striking out seven Great Dane batters.

"I just real feel really good coming off my year last year," said Gordon. "I worked so hard since last season and was determined to not be the pitcher I was last year. It feels really good to help out the team and be effective."

Albany would do all of their damage in the first inning of off Bulls starter Cristi Ecks. Ecks worked a third of inning and was the pitcher of record falling to 2-1 on the season. Albany got the games only runs on four hits in the first.

The Bulls best scoring opportunity came in the sixth inning. With one out Tara Toscano walked followed by a JoJo Medina infield single. The single was the Bulls first hit off of Albany pitcher Leah McIntosh. McIntosh held the Bulls hitless for 5.1 innings, striking out nine on the afternoon.

After a wild pitch, the runners advanced to set up runners on the corners with one down, but McIntosh would get Cat Olnick to pop out to left field and then struck out Alison Savarese to end the threat and the inning.

With the loss, the Bulls fall to 8-5 on the season. USF will be back in action tomorrow to wrap up the 2009 USF The Game Tournament with a Sunday double-header. First, will be Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m. than the Bulls will take on Florida A&M directly following the first game.
