GAINESVILLE ? The University of South Florida softball team (11-6 overall) fell to No. 2 University of Florida, 8-0, on Friday evening in Gainesville.
“We had a long day today,” said USF softball head coach Ken Eriksen. “We did a really good job coming back in the first game and we didn't play ball in game two. We need to get tougher in the first innings and making it easier for our pitchers. We need to start to focus.”
Freshmen Janine Richardson and Laura Fountain registered the only two hits of the game for the Bulls.
The Gators put five runs across in the opening two frame innings and the Bulls did not recover after that.
Gators pitcher, All-American Stacey Nelson, threw six innings, giving up two hits and striking out 12.
The Bulls will face Illinois at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by Pacific right after in the second day of the Cox Invitational.
