CLEARWATER - After taking the early lead the Bulls fell to George Washington, 2-1, in extra innings.
"I thought our energy was down all day today," said USF softball head coach Ken Eriksen. "We are very lucky to come away with a split. We had alot of baserunning and situational mistakes today."
Despite the Bulls pitching staff only allowing four hits in the night cap, the Bulls offense could only match the four hits themselves.
Junior JoJo Medina would get hit by a pitch and Becky Frye would come into the game to run. Freshman centerfielder Janine Richardson would follow with a bunt single to put runners on first and second with nobody out. A double steal by Frye and Richardson would put two runners in scoring position.
George Washington's heads up defense would throw Frye out at home on a ball hit to third but advancing Richardson to third. The speedy Richardson would plate home on a wild pitch to put the only run on the board for the Bulls.
Defensive miscues would allow the Colonials to put an unearned run to even the score at one apiece.
In the international tie breaker in the eighth, George Washington scored on a base hit followed by a Bulls error to end the game and suffer the lost, 2-1.
USF defeated Central Michigan, 3-2, earlier in the day.
The Bulls will face Jacksonville for the final day of the USF Under Armour Showcase at Noon on Sunday.
