CLEARWATER - The University of South Florida softball started off day two of the 2009 USF Under Armour Showcase in similar fashion in which it started day one. The Bulls held off a late charge by Central Michigan to go 3-0 on the weekend with a 3-2 victory over the Chippawases in Clearwater, Fla. at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
The game remained scoreless into the fourth inning until the Bulls pushed acrossed the first run of the game when Kelly McCarver singled to left with two outs to score Becky Frye who was pinch running for JoJo Medina.
The Bulls would than tack on a second run on a Cat Olnick single which scored freshman Janine Richardson from second base, who got on after hitting a double to the gap.
The Bulls headed into the seventh with a 2-0 lead where they made the lead 3-0. Alison Savarese would set the table for the Bulls when she tripled to lead off the inning and would score on a wild pitch during the next at bat.
Senior Cristi Ecks then came into to shut down the the Chips two run rally to record the final two outs to earn the save. Ecks relieved sophomore Kristen Gordon who record the win by going 6.1 innings, scattering five hits and striking out five CMU batters. Neither of the of the Central Michigan runs were earned
