TAMPA - The University of South Florida softball team (28-13 overall, 7-2 BIG EAST) defeated Villanova, 2-1, with a come-from-behind effort in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Bulls fell behind in the fifth inning on a unearned run but rallied back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, two slap singles by Gina Kafalas and Tara Toscano would bring up senior Britta Giddens to the plate. She would double to the right field wall to drive home Kafalas and Toscano.
Freshman Janine Richardson led the Bulls with two hits. Giddens' led with two RBI. Overall USF tallied seven hits in the game.
Senior Cristi Ecks (6-1) tosses a complete game, striking out nine while only allowing two hits. The Manassas, Va. native did not walk a batter or allow an earned run.
