CLEARWATER - Junior pitcher Kristen Gordon and the University of South Florida softball team (15-9) shut out the Fordham Rams (6-7) in the nightcap of the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
“This has to be one of the most exciting games I have ever seen a USF pitcher throw,” said USF softball head coach Ken Eriksen.
Gordon (3-3) hurled a complete game shutout, striking out 12 Ram batters, which is her new career high and only allowing two hits.
“It was nice to work with coach (Eriksen) tonight,” said Gordon. “My two best pitches were not working tonight at all but to be able to throw other pitches and strike them out, it's really a reflection on him.”
The Bulls would break the scoreless tie when Janine Richardson doubled down the left field line to bring in Alison Savarese and Gina Kafalas.
Junior catcher, Cat Olnick, would lead the Bulls with two base hits, including a fourth-inning double.
“I was pretty excited tonight,” said Eriksen. “We have been swinging the bats very aggressively as of late. It is something that they have taken on and have worked extremely hard at.”
Jen Mineau (3-4) suffered the loss for the Rams tossing 7.0 innings, giving up six hits and two runs.
The Bulls will face Fordham at 1 p.m. on Saturday and an opponent to be determined at 4 p.m.
