CHICAGO, Ill. ? The University of South Florida softball team (28-18 overall, 7-7 BIG EAST) suffered their second consecutive loss to the No. 21/22 DePaul Blue Demons (24-9 overall, 11-2 BIG EAST), 4-1, in the second game of the doubleheader.
“We did some real positive things today,” said USF softball head coach Ken Eriksen. “We had a few moments today that were bad and cost us the games. We got a huge weekend coming up that we must now focus on.”
The DePaul Blue Demons put four runs on the board in the first and the Bulls could not match it, scoring only one run in the second inning.
The Bulls tallied three hits in the game. Freshmen Janine Richardson tagged an RBI single to score the only run for the Bulls, which was in the second inning. Junior JoJo Medina doubled to right field in the second and sophomore Kendall Arnold singled in the fourth.
Senior Bree Spence (4-4) was dealt the loss, tossing 1.2 innings, giving up five hits, four runs and one walk. She struck out one in her outing.
Junior Kristen Gordon came in for relief, throwing 3.1 innings and striking out three. Freshman Brittany Bowles finished the game with the final inning, striking out one.
The Bulls will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 when USF travels to Queens, N.Y., in a BIG EAST doubleheader match up with St. John's, beginning at Noon.
