ATLANTA, Ga. - USF sophomore Antillio Bastian became the 14th and final regional qualifier for the Bulls in the triple-jump this past weekend, May 15-16, at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
Freshman Casey Wagner captured the javelin title for the women and USF had six top-three finishes and 15 top-eight finishes. There were 65 teams and 1,000 athletes in competition on the weekend.
The Bulls now have a weekend off as they prepare for the NCAA East Regionals on Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, at Greensboro, N.C. USF has 14 individuals qualified for the regionals, nine men and five women. The nine men will compete in seven events and the five women will participate in three events.
Bastian qualified for the NCAA regionals with a triple-jump of 49 feet, 9.25 inches to place seventh in the meet. Wagner won the javelin with a heave of 149-3.
Also placing in the top three for the USF women were Yvana Hepburn in the 100-meter hurdles (13.72), Stepanie Duffy in the pole vault (12-1.50) and Jara Cornett in the javelin (137-11). For the men were Grant Scelzi in the pole vault (16-0.75) and Jared Thomas in the discuss (53.14).
Nabbing a fourth-place finish was Michael Kursteiner in the high jump (6-10.75) and Tyler Perkins in the discus (174-03), with the 4x400 relay team taking fifth (3:17.95) and Glenn Fowler sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (51.49).
