LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
The University of South Florida softball team (34-22 overall) fell to the #19 DePaul Demons (37-11 overall) in the semifinal game of the BIG EAST Conference Tournament, 4-0, at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
"It would have been nice to win that ballgame," said USF head coach Ken Eriksen. “We just have to sit back and wait and hope the committee looks at our entire schedule for the year. I hope for the best."
The Bulls fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first on a Becca Heteniak two-run homerun.
Junior JoJo Medina began the bottom of the fifth with a walk. Junior Cat Olnick moved pinch runner Lauren Rodriguez to second. The Bulls were unable to push a runner further in the game. The Bulls only hit of the game was junior Ashley Bullion's single to the third baseman in the fifth.
DePaul scored two additional runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 4-0.
Freshman Candace Howell (7-6) earned the loss tossing 5.1 innings, striking out six Blue Demon batters.
The Bulls will wait for a potential regional bid. The field of 64 teams for the 2009 NCAA Division I Softball Championship will be announced at 10 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, May 10, on ESPNU.
