New Additions
Junior college All-American Jason Pierre-Paul officially joined the USF football program this evening when he hit the practice field.

Pierre-Paul, a native of Deerfield Beach, spent the last two football season at Fort Scott Community College.

"He was decent in some areas and he did some good things in other spots,"said defensive line coach Kevin Patrick. "We have to watch film, but we're excited about the initial results and hope he has a chance to really help us opposite of George [Selvie]."

Pierre-Paul joins an already deep defensive that includes veterans Aaaron Harris, Terrell McClain, Craig Marshall, David Bedford plus rising youngster Cory Grissom, Keith McCaskill, Ryne Giddens, Julius Forte and Leslie Stirrups.

Also joining the team today was freshman walk-on Chase Boswell, who is lining up at tight end. The 6-1, 216 product attended Wharton high school where he played on the offensive line and at linebacker.

Greg Auman already has some notes on Boswell, who is one of five Wharton players on the Bulls' roster.

Part of the reason had to be that George Selvie did not participate in the scrimmage and Kion Wilson only played a handful of snaps, but then again, the offense was without Matt Grothe.

You can also add Tresey to the growing list of players and coaches raving about B.J. Daniels. Tresey said that facing Daniels is a "major concern." and that he "just makes things happen."

Star of the Scrimmage: Freshman Lindsey Lamar
The Hillsborough high product is fun to watch and had one long run and several eye-catching juke moves. He made three guys miss early in the scrimmage and the "ooohs and ahhhs" were noticeable on both sidelines.

Big Hitter: Theo Wilson
Jerome Murphy, who put a lick on Lamar, gets honorable mention on this day because it's not often a bigger hitter award goes to a wide receiver. Wilson earned the honor on Dontavia Bogan's TD catch, when he delivered two big blows on defensive backs. The hits freed up Bogan to score from at least 40 yards out. After Bogan trotted into the end zone, Wilson turned around and jumped into the arms of offensive lineman Chaz Hine.

Fresh Faces: Aston Samuels and Demetris Murry
Aston Samuels and Demetris Murray both had strong evenings and scored during goal line work. Samuels, who's getting a lot of reps with the ones and twos has put together a strong camp and has shown off his elite speed on several big plays the last two weeks. Murray showed a good feel for finding holes and being patient in the run game. He also lowered his shoulder and barrelled into the end zone on a tough one-yard run.

Another Fresh Face: Victor Marc
Freshman DB Victor Marc had another interception last night from the safety position. He's racked up three interceptions in the last couple days and is making a case to not be redshirted this fall.

Late Night
The scrimmage was delayed due to lightning in the area and that meant that it was just minutes shy of 11 p.m. when the coaches left the field. They still had film to break down, which ran until 1:30 a.m. The players have this morning off before a light practice this afternoon, but the staff was back at it for meeting at 8:30 a.m.

Sideline Observations
Matt Grothe was a bystander last night and he admitted that is was painstaking to just watch, but it gave us a chance to pick his brain.

Grothe loves the new dimension that Lamar brings to the offense and thinks the Bulls will be even more explosive this fall. He thinks that Murrary is underrated and could be a workhorse for the Bulls in seasons to come.

The senior QB has been impressed by redshirt-freshman tight end Andreas Shields, who has pushed Ben Busbee and Andrew Ketchel for frontline reps. It will be interesting to see if experience or youth wins out at the position.Grothe is a good mentor for B.J. Daniels and Evan Landi, always offering an encouraging word and insight. On multiple occasions last night, he patted Landi on the back and congratulated him for effectively running the offense.

The Bulls are fortunate to have three very talented quarterbacks and Grothe is among many that believe all three are capable of leading USF to success this season.
