CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of South Florida women's basketball team had a week off to prepare for its game this afternoon against Cincinnati and regroup from its tough loss against St. John's last Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

Well the Bulls took full advantage of their only bye week of the BIG EAST Conference season handing the Bearcats a 64-47 loss at Fifth Third Arena this afternoon. The win was USF's third in its last four games.

The Bulls jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead only to have Cincinnati come back and score the next six points to take a 6-5 lead, what would be its only lead of the contest, on two free throws by Shareese Ulis with just over 17 minutes left in the half.

USF would settle down and take control for the rest of the half using an 18-6 run over the next 13-plus minutes, to take its biggest lead of the half, 23-14, on a running jumper by Leondra Doomes-Stephens with 3:19 left before the intermission.

The Bulls, shooting 38.5 percent (10-26) in the first half and holding Cincinnati to just 21.7 percent (5-23) from the floor, would take a 23-17 advantage into the locker room at the break.

The Bearcats would come out in the second half looking like they were poised to make some noise using a 4-0 run to cut the lead to two, 23-21, before Doomes-Stephens drained a three-pointer with 18:27 left to push USF's edge back to 26-21.

The Bulls would try to pull away several times in the second half only to have Cincinnati fight back and stay in the game. Sequoyah Griffin would equal USF's biggest lead of the game hitting two free throws with 8:45 left. Janae Stokes then gave the Bulls their first double-digit advantage of the contest hitting a trey with 8:04 left in the game.

The Bulls would never let the Bearcats back into the contest, pushing their lead to a game-high 17 points twice in the final eight minutes of the contest.

Jessica Lawson would pace the Bulls on the day with 22 points - including 14 points in the second half - and 12 rebounds. Her outing this afternoon against the Bearcats would mark her fourth consecutive double-double, her fourth in her last five games, and her 11th of the season.

Doomes-Stephens would add 17 points while Griffin chipped in with 10 points in the win. Griffin would fall just one rebound and one assist shy of a triple double. Her nine handouts are a career-high.

As a team, USF would finish the contest shooting 47.5 percent (28-59) and 41.7 percent (5-12) from behind the three-point arc. Cincinnati shot just 33.3 percent (17-51) from the floor and 18.2 percent (2-11) from three-point range.

USF will now return home to face Villanova on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in the first game of a two-game homestand. The Bulls will close out the short two-game stretch on Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. when Rutgers visits the Sun Dome.
