Bulls Search for a Cure With "Dig Pink" Night

TAMPA - The University of South Florida volleyball team has designated the Rutgers match on Oct. 31 at noon as the season's "Dig Pink" match.

"We are excited about teaming up with Dig Pink and the Sideout Foundation," said head coach Claire Lessinger. Over 700 colleges and high school will be participating this year in hopes to raise over $1 million. USF volleyball has been a proud participant for many years and our efforts have helped raise thousands of dollars towards a wonderful cause."

Individual sponsors pledge money per dig earned by the Bulls or can make a flat donation to the cause. Dig Pink is the breast cancer awareness rally being held all of October 2010. A large statement is going to be made by holding hundreds, potentially thousands, of featured high school and college matches across the country to help educate and raise funds to eradicate this terrible disease.

Proceeds will be distributed among research teams focused on target therapies and molecular profiling as well as "living with cancer" organizations nationwide.

"Our team and our staff are soliciting flat donations as well as pledges per dig," said Lessinger. "It is a fun way to use one of our statistical categories as a goal initiative and give back to an organization that is doing wonders for women at the same time."

The 2010 season marks the seventh year that USF has been participating in this program and the fight against breast cancer. The Bulls have raised thousands of dollars in that time and look to build on that amount to make a difference for the cause.
