TAMPA - The University of South Florida women's basketball team got a career-high 14 points from Tiffany Conner and 10 points from Andrea Smith, but that didn't prove to be enough as USF dropped a tough 53-51 decision to Morgan State at the Sun Dome.

The Bulls (2-2) trailed most of the first half, however, went into the locker room at the break up two points, 27-25, after using a 13-8 run over the final 8:39 of the first stanza.

USF came out in the second half and looked like it was ready to pull away, as it took what would be a game-high five-point lead, 37-32, on a three-point shot by Smith with 17:09 left in the contest.

Both teams would exchange the lead the rest of the way and encounter four of the games 13 ties in the next 15-plus minutes, with the final time coming at 51-all on a lay-up by Morgan State's Therese Davis with 1:15 left in the game.

After Kaneisha Saunders missed a jumper with 48 seconds left, the Bears would get the ball back and take the lead only to have a Brittany Dodson driving baseline lay-up go off the rim. Porche Grant would recover the rebound - her 15th of the night tying a career-high - with 27 seconds left on the clock, and giving the Bulls what would seem to be the last chance to win the game.

USF, however, would turn the ball over and had to foul as Emily Hawkins stepped to the line for the Bears and hit the two free throws giving Morgan State a two-point lead, 53-51.

The Bulls would have one final opportunity with just over three seconds left on the clock when Leondra Doomes-Stephens drove from mid-court and got to the basket, but could not connect on the lay-up as it rolled off the rim at the buzzer.

Along with Conner and Smith, Grant and Andrell Smith each added six points in the loss.

On the night, Conner was 5-8 from the field, including a 4-7 mark from behind the three-point arc. Her four three-pointers made was a career-high.

Morgan State moves to 3-1 on the year.

The Bulls will close out their three-game stretch in the Sun Dome on Monday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. when Southeastern Conference foe Auburn comes to Tampa.
