Bulls Return Home To Butt Heads With Stony Brook

TAMPA - The University of South Florida men's soccer team returns home to the USF Soccer Stadium Tuesday night to face Stony Brook at 7:30 p.m. in what is the first of two back-to-back matches for the Bulls. The Bulls look to get their first win of the 2010 season before heading into Friday's nationally televised match against Virginia Tech on Fox Soccer Channel.

THE LOWDOWN
The USF men's soccer team gets back to work tonight looking for its first win of the 2010 season as it battles Stony Brook ... The match against the Seawolves is the first of a short two-match homestand that will end on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in a nationally televised match against Virginia Tech on Fox Soccer Channel ... Kevin Olali leads the Bulls in scoring through two matches this season with two points ... He scored the Bulls' lone goal of the year against Florida Gulf Coast ... All-America goalkeeper Jeff Attinella has made 15 saves this season and has a 0.90 goals against average and a .882 save percentage with one shutout.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The No. 13 ranked USF men's soccer team hit the road for the first time on Sept. 4, heading to the Midwest to face traditional national collegiate soccer power Saint Louis, and played the host Billikens to a 0-0 draw in front of 1,054 at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

Each team went back-and-forth in what was a relatively uneventful first half with both teams accounting for two shots apiece during the first 45 minutes of play ... USF's best opportunity in the first half came in the 41st minute when  Ben Sweat put a shot on goal only to have the attempt stopped by Saint Louis goalkeeper Nick Shackelford ... In the Second stanza, Shackelford was tested quickly by the Bulls when Bernardo Anor made a run up the left side of the field and put a low liner on net, however the Billiken net minder corralled the shot keeping the game scoreless less than one minute into the second half.

After a scoreless regulation, USF looked to attack quickly when Aubrey Perry got a shot off that beat Shackelford, however went just high over the crossbar in the 92nd minute ... In the second extra 10-minute session, USF's Shawn Chin got open and put a got a shot off that went just wide just under the 101st minute, and then Anor would make the Bulls last bid at a win with a shot that also went wide.

All-America keeper Jeff Attinella recorded two saves in the tie for the Bulls.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK
Stony Brook comes into tonight's match with a 1-2 record ... The Seawolves won their opener on Sept. 1 against Hofstra, 1-0 in overtime, before dropping their next two  at Lafayette (3-1) on Sept. 3 and against Colgate (2-1) on Sept. 5 ... Marc Godelman leads Stony Brook in scoring with three points (1-1) ... Will Casey, Kyle Schlesinger and Wilber Bonilla all have two points (1-0).

THE SERIES HISTORY
Tonight's match is the second all-time between USF and Stony Brook with the Bulls holding a slight 1-0 series lead ... The two school's previously met on Sept. 15, 2002 here in Tampa with USF coming out on top 3-0.

UP NEXT FOR THE BULLS
Following Tuesday's match against Stony Brook, the Bulls will return to the USF Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. to face Virginia Tech ... The match will be televised live on the Fox Soccer Channel ... USF will then hit the road for three straight matches, two in the Embassy Suites Kickoff Classic at Florida Gulf Coast (vs. Ohio State on Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. and Drexel on Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.) and then in its BIG EAST opener at Connecticut on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. ...
