Up Next For the Bulls: Game 40: Louisville | April 23 | 1:00 p.m. | Louisville, Ky. |
|
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite three hit outings from seniors
Jonathan Koscso and
Junior Carlin, the University of South Florida baseball team (18-20, 7-7) fell to Louisville (22-16, 8-6), 7-2, Friday evening at Jim Patterson Stadium.
With his first at-bat of the night, Carlin extended his career long hit streak to 18 games with a single to center. He would go on to reach base in each of his first four plate appearances with three hits and base on balls.
Louisville would take an early lead as Ryan Wright continued to be thorn in the Bulls' side belting the first of his two solo home runs on the night with two outs in the first.
The Bulls would answer, tying the game at one with an RBI single by Koscso.
For the second consecutive night the Cardinals would do a majority of their damage with a five run inning, as the Cards turned a tie ball into a 6-1 Louisville lead with five runs in the fourth chasing Bulls starter
Kyle Eastham from the game.
Eastham only allowed three hits but feel victim to control problems, issuing four walks taking the loss falling to 3-4 on the season.
USF would cut the Louisville lead to 6-2 on an RBI groundout by
Todd Brazeal in the fifth but Wright's second homer of the night pushed the Cardinal lead to the final 7-2 outcome.
On the night, the hits were even at seven apiece with Carlin and Koscso combining for six of the seven for the Bulls.
Jimmy Falla tallied the other hit for the Bulls.
One bright spot for the Bulls was freshman reliever Janick Serralonga, who pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of relief to finish out the game. Serralonga scattered two hits while striking out two.
The Bulls will look to salvage a split when they take on the Cardinals in the finale Saturday with a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
