The Bulls used all four members of their pitching staff in the loss with Brittany Bowles taking the loss as she allowed the Blue Demons to score two in the fourth to take the 6-5 lead heading into the delay.
Freshmen Ashli Goff and Kourtney Salvarola each collected a pair of hits in the game and each drove in one and scored one.
The two teams exchanged blows in the game with DePaul putting up four in the second, and two in the fourth, while the Bulls scored five in the third inning.
After exploding for four runs in the third inning of game one, the Bulls got a dose of their own medicine in game two.
The Bulls were able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, but DePaul scored four times in the bottom of the second capped by a two-run home run by Kirsten Verdun, her 11th of the season to give the home team the early lead.
The Bulls were down, but they weren't out.
USF got one out singles from Courtney Goff and Gina Kafalas and they advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Ashli Goff then beat out an infield single and Courtney Goff beat the throw to the plate, which caromed to the backstop allowing Kafalas to score cutting the DePaul lead to 4-2.
They weren't done yet.
Kourtney Salvarola, who collected a clutch double in game one of the double-header, repeated the feat in game two to drive in Ashli Goff chopping the Blue Demons lead to 4-3. The Bulls added another pair of runs to take the 5-4 lead thanks to an RBI sac bunt by Janine Richardson, and an RBI single by Stephanie Medina.
DePaul responded by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the 6-5 lead before the umpires called for a rain delay.
After a delay of 1:02, the two teams took the field and DePaul immediately put up four runs in the inning for the second time in the game to take the 10-5 advantage.
The Blue Demons added three more runs in the bottom of sixth to pick up the run-rule victory, 13-5.
The two teams will play the rubber match of the three-game set at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
