TAMPA - The Bulls finished strong on the track and in the classroom this past season.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that the USF women's squad has earned All-Academic status on top of Shaniel Chambers, Rachael James, Allie Prendergast, Nicole Smith and Yasmin Smith earning All-Academic individual honors.
All-Academic teams had to post a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 and have competed at the most recent NCAA championship. The USF women had a cumulative GPA of 3.22 and were one of 12 squads from the Big East to earn USTFCCCA ll-Academic status.
"To have our women's team earn this honor speaks volumes about the quality of our student-athletes," USF head coach Warren Bye said. "Their hard work in the classroom has paid off with another academic award."
Chambers capped off a stellar USF career by setting the program's 500-meter indoor record and the 800-meter outdoor record before graduating with a degree in criminology. Prendergast graduated with a degree in psychology after getting into USF's top 10 in three different events. Prendergast and Yasmin Smith were a part of the 4x800 outdoor relay team that set a school record before Smith graduated with a degree in physical education.
James became a school record-holder in the indoor 400 meters last season and the senior is pursuing a degree in biomedical sciences. Nicole Smith, a senior, is majoring in athletic training and has qualified for the Big East championship multiple times in the pole vault.
