Bulls Cool Off in Second Half of Loss to FGCU
FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Tamara Taylor came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points in USF's 60-55 loss to Florida Gulf Coast University at
Alico Arena on Wednesday night.
The Bulls (4-3) led by 16 points but couldn't overcome struggles on offense while scoring 19 points in the second half. USF went 7-for-33 from the field and 0-for-5 from 3-point range after going 4-for-7 from long range in the first half.
Ariadna Pujol and
Alisia Jenkins each scored 10 points apiece, and
Courtney Williams added seven points and seven rebounds as USF fell to 1-1 on the road this season. Â
Pujol's layup with 3 seconds remaining gave USF a 36-25 halftime lead after the Bulls grabbed a 23-15 edge on the glass. Jenkins finished with a team-high nine rebounds in limited minutes due to foul trouble and center
Akila McDonald posted two boards before fouling out with 6:42 to play.
USF retook the lead with 3:48 remaining with a three-point play by Jenkins, but the Bulls failed to finish with a smaller lineup down the stretch. Stephanie Haas' layup 24 seconds later sparked a 9-0 FGCU run before
Pujol's free throws cut the Bulls' deficit to 59-52 with 20 seconds remaining.
FGCU (5-3) got a game-high 22 points from Haas and Whitney Knight added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
