Hot Start Propels Bulls Past Hatters

TAMPA โย The Bulls returned home and returned to the win column, using a 22-point effort from sophomore Courtney Williams to top Stetson 72-68 in the Sun Dome Sunday afternoon.
Williams reprised a role she's found plenty of success in, coming off the bench and creating instant offense for USF as the Bulls ended a two-game losing streak, getting 35 points from the bench.
The Bulls were red-hot from the floor early, putting up 12 points on just four shots in their first four possessions. USF shot well against the zone all half, knocking down 40 percent of their three-point attempts to make up for eight first-half turnovers.
Williams continued to be a valuable asset off the bench, putting up a team-high 13 points in the half and shooting 56 percent from the field. Tamara Taylor came out shooting in her first start of the season and contributed nine points in the half, as the Bulls came out ahead in the shootout to lead 42-37 at the half.
The shooting cooled off for both teams in the second half, but USF crashed the offensive boards, collecting 16 rebounds on the offensive end and getting 10 second-chance points to close out the Hatters. The Bulls out-rebounded Stetson 20-9 on the offensive end, getting seven of those boards from Williams, who would notch her second double-double of the year with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore guard Shalethia Stringfield contributed eight points for the Bulls and dished out a career-best seven assists in the win.
USF will be back in action Saturday, traveling to face Oklahoma State.
