CLEARWATER - The USF softball team was unable to get much going in their final game of the NFCA Lead-Off Classic in Clearwater, losing 7-0 to Illinois State to cap of a tough weekend.

Getting hits was again an issue for the Bulls (6-8) as they failed to score a run for the second day in a row. Freshman Monica Santos had the only hit of the game for USF when she singled up the middle in the fifth inning.

Illinois State pitcher Regan Romshek picked up her third win of the year after throwing a complete game shutout and allowing only four base runners.

The Redbirds had a big third inning against Bull's pitcher Lindsey Richardson as they scored four runs on three hits.

Laura Canopy doubled with the bases loaded to score two runs and Shelby Music followed that with a two-run single to bust the game open.

Richardson was replaced by Sam Greiner in the fourth and finished with four strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Illinois State added two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to finish off the scoring.

The Bulls will look to bounce back in a big way when they take on Florida Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at the USF softball stadium.
