TAMPA –
The USF softball team took game two of their double header,
4-1, on their way to completing a sweep of Central Michigan on Wednesday night
at the USF Softball Stadium.
Stephanie Medina continued her hot hitting with three more
hits and Kenshyra Jackson hit her third home run of the year to lead the Bulls
to victory.
Central Michigan jumped out to an early lead with a solo
home run to dead center field by Brittney Horan in the first inning.
After the home run the Chippewas loaded the bases when Summer
Knoop and Cory Delamielleure both singled with two outs.
However, freshman
Erica Nunn was able to get Trista Cox to ground into a fielder's choice to get out of the jam and avoid any further damage.
The Bulls (11-10) wasted no time in erasing the deficit as
Jackson blasted a three-run homer that landed on top of the batting cages in
left center field to give USF a 3-1 lead. It was Jackson's second home run of
the night after hitting a solo home run in the first game.
Sam Greiner came in to replace Nunn in the third inning after Nunn
fouled a ball off of her knee while batting in the second.
Greiner pitched well only
giving up three hits and no runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Central Michigan threatened to score in the fourth after a
fielder's choice by Cox and a single by Lauren Smith put runners on first and second
with only one out.
Greiner recorded the second out and was then replaced by
Sara Nevins who got Macy Merchant to ground out to second to end the inning.
Lee Ann Spivey added another insurance run for USF in the
fourth when she hit her first career home run over the left field fence to put
the Bulls up 4-1.
The Chippewas had another chance to cut into the USF lead in
the sixth with runners on second and third with only one out.
That didn't faze Nevins, however, as she came up with two
huge strikeouts to get out of the inning and preserve the lead.
Nevins pitched a flawless seventh to pick up her fourth win
of the year as the Bulls came away with their fifth straight victory.
USF will be back in action on Friday with another double
header at home to kick off the Under Armour Showcase Tournament. The Bulls face
South Carolina at 2 p.m. and Massachusetts directly after at 4:15 p.m.
