TAMPA – Sharla Passariello scored the lone goal for USF in its 1-0 win over South Alabama on Friday before a crowd of 588 at Corbett Stadium.
USF (5-1-3) played in a 1-1 double-overtime thriller against ninth ranked Florida in its last match on Sunday, and built off of that performance on Friday.
The Bulls and Jaguars were scoreless until the 74th minute when Passariello netted her team leading fourth goal of the season to put USF on top. The assists were credited to Jana Spengler and Olivia Chance.
The Bulls defense was stout once again holding South Alabama (7-2-1) to just two shots on goal in the match. Sophomore keeper Christiane Endler stopped both shots to capture her third shutout of the season.
Sophomore defender Jackie Simpson saw her first action since USF's 1-0 victory over Middle Tennessee State on September 6th, playing 49 minutes in her return to the pitch.
“Jackie is very competitive and very athletic,” head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. “I was very pleased with her first game back.”
The Bulls open conference play at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Orlando to face conference rival UCF.
“I don't think it changes the rivalry, if anything maybe it intensifies it a little bit,” Schilte-Brown said about USF now being in the same conference as the Knights. “Our focus has really been on how we play. When we play really well, we can beat anybody.”
USF returns home to Corbett Stadium on Friday, Oct. 4, where they will face AAC opponent Temple at 7:30 p.m.
