TAMPA, NOV. 13, 2014 – The USF men's soccer team was well represented in the American Athletic Conference postseason awards and all-conference teams that were announced on Thursday night.
Midfielders Lucas Baldin and Lindo Mfeka along with defender Wesley Charpie and goalkeeper Spasoje Stefanovic helped the Bulls lead all schools with four players named first-team all-conference. The four first-team all-conference selections tied the 1998 team for the most in program history and mark the most during head coach George Kiefer's tenure.
Stefanovic was also named American Co-Goalkeeper of the Year with SMU's Michael Nelson after starting all 18 games and posting a 1.14 goals against average so far in his first season with the Green and Gold. Senior captain Edwin Moalosi also was recognized with second-team all-conference honors, while freshman midfielder Eduardo Maceira made the All-Rookie Team.
It was the first time being named to an all-conference team for Baldin, who is having a breakout season with career highs in goals (five), assists (nine) and points (19). The senior from Taubate, Brazil was recently named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and is tied for eighth in the nation in assists.
Mfeka was named all-conference for the second straight year after earning second-team and all-rookie team honors last season. The sophomore from Durban, South Africa led the Bulls with four goals and 11 points in conference play.
Rounding out the first-team honorees was Charpie, who earned all-conference recognition for the second time in his career after making the Big East All-Rookie Team during his freshman campaign. The senior has tied his career-high with six assists and leads all USF defenders with six points this season.
Moalosi was the lone USF player to earn second-team all-conference honors. He is tied for the team lead in points for the second consecutive season and has posted a career-high nine assists, including a team-best five in league play.
Rounding out the group is Maceira, whose 12 points earned him a spot on the American All-Rookie Team. The freshman from Caracas, Venezuela is tied for the team lead with five goals after scoring twice in his first-career start during the Bulls' 4-2 conference quarterfinal win over Memphis last Saturday.
The Bulls also won the Team Fair Play Award that is given to the team with the fewest accumulated fouls, yellow cards and red cards in conference play.
