CLEARWATER, FLA. FEB. 22, 2014 – Sara Nevins pitched six shutout innings while Ta'coia Williams and Lee Ann Spivey continued their hot hitting at the plate to lead the Bulls to a 3-0 victory over James Madison on Saturday afternoon at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic.
Williams put the Bulls (6-4) ahead early with her fifth RBI of the tournament when she doubled to score Kourtney Salvarola in the first inning.
Lee Ann Spivey added to the USF lead in to fourth with her third home run this season, a solo shot to right center field that put the Bulls up 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Meanwhile, Nevins picked up where she left off last weekend, pitching six shutout innings with no walks and five strikeouts en route to her fourth straight win.
The Bulls were able to tack on another run in the fifth after a leadoff triple and some heads up base running by Courtney Goff. She would end up scoring on a dropped third strike to increase the lead to three. Goff went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored.
Sophomore Erica Nunn came in to shut the door in the seventh, retiring the Dukes (7-7) in order to record her first career save.
USF finishes the day with a matchup against No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette 5 p.m., at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
