Greiner Leads Bulls in 8-0 Rout of St. Bonaventure

Follow @USFSoftball on Twitter TAMPA, MARCH 1, 2014 – Sam Greiner struck out a career-high nine batters in a complete game shutout to lead the Bulls to a 8-0 win over St. Bonaventure at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. It took a while for the USF offense to start clicking, but when it did the runs came in bunches as five Bulls recorded RBIs in the game. Getting the start at catcher, Kaitlyn Santo came through with her first hit of the year on an RBI bunt single to put the Bulls (11-5) up 1-0 in the fourth. Dani Wayt scored on the play after pinch running for Karla Claudio, who led off the inning with a walk. USF busted the game wide open in the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits. Three straight singles by Ashli Goff, Kourtney Salvarola and Ta'coia Williams loaded the bases with no outs for Claudio. She came up with a bloop single that scored Goff and gave the Bulls a two-run lead. Morgan Litchfield then got into the action with a single through the left side to score two more. One batter later Nicollette Levine recorded her third RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Claudio. Santo capped off the scoring with her second RBI of the day on a groundout to third base to make it 6-0 USF. The Bulls ended the game early in the sixth when they added two more runs to make it 8-0 and put the run rule into effect. Claudio had an RBI single and Veronica Gajownik ended the game with a fielder's choice to score Salvarola from third. Kassandra Moeller recorder her first career hit in the inning as well. Head coach Ken Eriksen also recorded his 750th career victory with the win. The Bulls improved to 3-0 for the tournament and will play Loyola Marymount at 4:30 p.m., to finish the day.
