TAMPA, MARCH 9, 2014 – Senior ace Sara Nevins got back to her winning ways on Sunday night, throwing a complete game one-hit shutout as the Bulls defeated St. Joseph's, 5-0, at the USF Softball Stadium.

Nevins (Pinellas Park) surrendered a hit to the first batter she faced but didn't allow another the rest of the way, striking out eight to pick up her 10th win of the season. The lefty now has six complete games and four shutouts to her credit this year.

“Today our defense was a little suspect, but we had offense and pitching and in our game you've got to have pitching,” head coach Ken Eriksen said.

The win over the Hawks was the Bulls' second straight after dropping two games on Friday against Northwestern and Kansas. USF finished with a 2-2 record at the Under Armour Showcase and 4-2 mark for the week after its two victories today.

Juli Weber scored the game's first run on a bases loaded walk by Ta'coia Williams and Lee Ann Spivey followed that with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Kourtney Salvarola and give the Bulls a two run lead after one.

The Bulls added to their lead in the third with a two-run homer by Williams (West Palm Beach) to make it 4-0. It was her fifth of the season, tying her for the team lead with Spivey and Salvarola.

Stephanie Medina got in on the action in the fifth with an RBI triple to drive in Ashli Goff who reached on a single earlier in the inning. For Medina, it was her third triple of the season after not having any over her first three seasons. Goff's single extended her hitting streak to 10 games, the longest by any Bull this season.

“She's put on a clinic all year,” Eriksen said about Goff after the game. “We've allowed her to swing away more than ever before and I think by doing that it shows that she is multifaceted.”

USF will have a very brief break, taking Monday off before going up against Central Michigan and Yale in a doubleheader 5 p.m. Tuesday at the USF Softball Stadium. Purchase tickets HERE.
