O'Neal Sets New Triple Jump Record

AUSTIN, Texas, MARCH 28, 2014 – Sophomore Matthew O'Neal improved on his school record in the triple jump as USF wrapped up day two of the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
O'Neal, a Jackson, Miss. native, placed second in the Section A triple jump with a leap of 53-feet-0 inches (16.15m), two inches longer than his previous best of 52-10 set last season. As of Friday, it was the top mark in the NCAA this season. Senior Shane Lewis (Orlando), who held the fourth best triple jump mark in school history moved up to second after his fourth place jump of 51-6.25 (15.70m) on Friday. It was the third best mark in the NCAA so far this season. The winner of the Texas Relays was Omar Craddock, a non-collegiate, competing for USA High Performance with a jump of 55-8.5 (16.98m).
Other performances for the USF men included a 27th place finish in the 100m by junior Alfred Higgs (Bahamas) in a time of 10.58 and a 14th place finish by junior Chase Meyers (Punta Gorda) in the high jump at 6-6.75.
The USF women were led by top 10 finishes from senior Marqueshia Stallworth (Loxahatchee) and junior Natasha Stewart (Vero Beach). Stallworth placed ninth in the Section A triple jump with a jump of 41-3.25. Stewart finished sixth in the Section B long jump with a mark of 19-4.75.
Sophomore Laticia Sims (Detroit, Mich.) set a personal best in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.02.
Courtney Anderson will compete in the high jump on Saturday. Also on Saturday is the remainder of the UCF Invitational, where the majority of the Bulls are competing this weekend.
