USF Finishes up Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas, April 12, 2014 – On a windy day in Austin, the University of South Florida competed at the Texas Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Mira Carroza (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed first in the javelin (145-04) in a throw that ranked third in school history and nearly six feet better than her previous best. Sophomore Laticia Sims (Detroit, Mich) improved on her career best in the 100m hurdles with a fourth place time of 13.82.
Senior Courtney Anderson (Cape Coral) won the high jump with a mark of 5-foot-10 inches (1.78m).
The men were led by sophomore Michael Babinec (Riverview) and his first place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:37.76.
The men placed fifth out of nine teams with 55 points. Texas won the meet with 184. The USF women placed sixth with 65 points while the Longhorns on the team title with 213.50.
The Bulls will next compete on Saturday when the squad is divided up into two groups. One will compete at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La. while the other heads to Gainesville, Fla. for the Tom Jones Memorial Invite.
