USF Drops 2-1 Ballgame to Stetson

(April 2, 2014) – USF scored a run in the ninth inning but stranded nine runners on base throughout the game falling to Stetson 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at Melching Field. After Lawrence Pardo (Miami) picked up a base hit in the first inning putting runners on first and second with one out, 14 straight Bulls were retired until the sixth inning. Stetson scored the game's first run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kyle Pitts scoring Garrett Russini on the play. USF loaded the bases in the sixth which began with a Nik Alfonso (Tampa) single to right field. After a sacrifice bunt advanced him to second, Levi Borders (Winter Haven) walked and Pardo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A fielder's choice getting the runner out at the plate for the second out ensued before a ground out ended the scoring threat. |
