TAMPA, SEPT. 12, 2014 – Former USF softball player Laurie Gouthro has been named the new Assistant Executive Director for International Softball at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
Her new role will include helping to lead the international softball management team, helping to oversee and lead the organization and legacy of the softball world championship platforms, including the flagship Women's Softball World Championship, according to the WBSC's official release. She will also be involved in the strategic planning, procedural reform and the administration and operational delivery of International Softball.
Gouthro played shortstop for the Bulls for three seasons from 1989-1991 after transferring over from Florida Community College.
A native of Olongopo City, Philippines, Gouthro has been with the WBSC since 2001, serving as the director of competition and she has overseen all world champions as well as the anti-doping program. She was also recently named the technical director for softball for Special Olympics International.
"Softball has always been an important part of my life, and I am very grateful for all the opportunities it has given me. I am excited about this new position and welcome the new challenges that come with it. I look forward to working with our President, Board and Executive Director to raise the profile of our sport worldwide and to increase participation at all levels of competition through our championship platforms and development programs,” Gouthro said in the official WBSC release.

The USF softball program has been one of the most successful on campus, making 12 NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the Women's College World Series in 2012. The Bulls made their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament this season and had six All-American Athletic Conference performers.
