Sophomores From Spain Show Toughness at No. 2 UF

GAINESVILLE, JAN. 28, 2015Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Olga Martinez pushed their opponents to three sets in No. 59 USF's 7-0 loss at No. 2 Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

Garrido-Rivas, a sophomore from Spain, won the second set in her battle with No. 6 Brooke Austin before falling, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-3, in the top singles spot at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.  Martinez, a sophomore from Spain, also took the second set in her 6-0, 6-7 (7), 10-3 loss to No. 11 Brianna Morgan.

Florida (3-0) was picked to win the SEC and has won 137 consecutive regular season home matches. USF (1-3) was looking for its second straight win after handing North Florida a 4-1 loss at ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 25 in Miami.

The Bulls continue their eight-match road trip 2 p.m. Saturday at No. 18 Georgia Tech in Atlanta. USF's next home match is Saturday, March 7 against North Florida. Admission is free all season at the USF Varsity Courts.
