ATLANTA (March 28, 2015)— The USF women's tennis team dropped another close match on the road as the Bulls fell, 4-3, to conference foe Tulane in Atlanta.
Though the Bulls dropped the doubles point, they were able to hold a lead over Tulane until the final singles match.
Three Bulls picked up individual wins on the day to keep the Bulls (3-14) in the match against the Green Wave. Olga Martinez defeated Ipek Birol, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot to tie the match at one. Vera Bessonova won in straight sets over Nicky Stracar to give the Bulls their first lead of the match.
Tulane (15-5) tied the match at two after winning on court five. Juliana Cardoso put the Bulls back on top with a straight set victory over Vanessa Nommensen at the No. 4 spot. The freshman won a long first set tiebreaker to take the match, 7-6 (7), 6-2.
The match came down to court three and Jessica Chaves after Tulane evened things back up with a win on court six. Chaves forced a third set, but her fight came up just short as she fell, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
USF continues its Georgia road trip with a match against Kennesaw State, Sunday, March 29, at 11 a.m.
