TAMPA (Nov. 9, 2016) – Head USF softball coach Ken Eriksen has signed four student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 academic year. Miriam Schmoll, Kyndall Williams, Jasmine Haynes and Georgina Corrick will be tasked with replacing a senior class that includes 2016 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Juli Weber.
“We are really excited about our 2017 signee class,” Eriksen said. “All four students are successful on the field and in the classroom. Not only are we excited but we feel extremely lucky to have Georgina , Jasmine, Miriam, and Kyndall join the USF Athletics family.”
Schmoll is a right-handed pitcher from Bradenton, Fla., and Bayshore High School. With a career ERA of .66, Schmoll has posted a 38-7 record as the starting pitcher for Bayshore. Coming back from an ACL injury as a sophomore, Schmoll threw 16 complete games with nine shutouts in her junior campaign. She threw three no-hitters in 2016, including one perfect game. She has struck out 501 and allowed just three home runs in her 295.2 innings of work over three years.
“Mim is a very smart player with a powerful pitching style,” Eriksen said. “Her adaptability and her tenaciousness is an asset that any pitcher would be lucky to have in her arsenal. Mim also carries a dangerous bat at the plate. I am really looking forward to having her with us day in and day out.”
Williams hails from Trenton, Fla., and Trenton High School. An infielder, Williams has played in 69 games in her high school career with a career .428 average. Of her 96 hits, 49 have gone for extra bases and she has driven in 107 runs. As a sophomore, she boasted a .925 slugging percentage and a .543 on-base percentage. She has stolen 25 bases on 26 attempts.
“Kyndall Williams may be able to play eight different positions and is raked by many as one of the best infield prospects in the state” Eriksen said. “She is that good of an athlete. He ability to run, throw with velocity, hit, and hit for power bodes well for us, as she can fit any defensive or offensive scheme that we choose. Her energy on the field is refreshing and will continue to help us strive upward."
Haynes comes to USF from Ocala, Fla., where she is an outfielder for Forest High School. She boasts a .512 career batting average in 88 games played. Haynes finished her junior campaign with 45 hits and 39 runs for a .517 average in 27 games played. She has 150 career hits and 133 runs scored in her three years of high school.
“Jasmine is another quick outfielder that joins a long line of traditionally fast players that have been part of USF softball,” Eriksen said. “Her ability to track the ball in the outfield and see how the defense sets up against her when she is at the plate just exudes excitement because she runs very well. I think our fans will enjoy her 'electricity' on the field.”
Corrick is a pitcher from Seminole High School in Sanford, Fla. She has 527 strikeouts and a career .98 ERA. Corrick has thrown 329.2 innings, including 182 as a sophomore. Her sophomore campaign also saw her strikeout 270 athletes while walking just 33. Corrick is also a member of the Great Britian U-19 team that won a European Championship this past August.
“George (Corrick) is an outstanding athlete that can do it in the circle and at the plate,” Eriksen said. “As stellar as she has been pitching, not only at the youth level but also at the international level, I am impressed with her ability to play defense at a regular position and with her ability to hit high level pitching. She is considered to be one of the best pitchers on the woeld stage and led Great Britian to the 2016 World Championship."
