Bulls post overall department GPA over 3.0
Ten programs post 4-year highs in term GPA
Football program has 51 members post 3.0 GPA or higher
TAMPA, FEB. 17, 2016 – True to its commitment to student-athlete success on and off the field, USF Athletics recorded outstanding academic achievements in the 2015 fall semester, including an overall department grade-point average over a 3.0.
USF's 19 varsity athletic teams and nearly 500 student-athletes recorded a combined 3.083 GPA following the 2015 fall semester, in which 258 student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher and 30 posted a 4.0 or better. Eighteen student-athletes earned their degree in December with more than 40 slated to graduate in May.
“I am very proud of our student-athletes and coaches commitment to achievement in the classroom and the success of our dedicated Academic Services team in helping them achieve their goals,” USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan said. “They continue striving for ever greater accomplishments and have once again raised the bar higher.”
USF had 10 programs post four-year highs in team term GPA in the fall, including the football program, which logged a 2.813 GPA in the fall term and saw 51 players post a 3.0 GPA or better while helping the Bulls reach their first bowl game in five years.
Fifteen USF athletic teams posted a 3.0 GPA or better in the 2015 fall term. USF's women's programs were led by the volleyball team with a 3.432 team GPA, while the men's programs were led by the tennis team, which posted a 3.370 team GPA one semester after winning its second-straight conference title and advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Both the volleyball and men's tennis programs were among 10 USF teams to post four-year highs in team term GPA in the fall. The others to post four-year highs were: men's golf (3.105), men's track and field (indoor & outdoor) (3.093), baseball (3.000), men's basketball (2.659), women's track and field (indoor & outdoor) (3.356), sailing (3.288) and women's basketball (3.137).
Also posting team term GPA's over a 3.0 and continuing to achieve in the classroom at a high level were: women's tennis (3.361), softball (3.328), women's cross country (3.219), women's golf (3.181) and women's soccer (3.181).

USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men's and women's teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 competing at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls' athletic program is celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 having started with a men's soccer contest in 1965. Nearly 500 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of Tampa campus. The Bulls claimed five conference titles in their first two seasons in The American. Eight USF programs reached NCAA post-season competition in the 2014-15 season as USF posted an 83 percent Graduation Success Rate among student-athletes, with 182 earning conference all-academic recognition.
