Box Score 2 CLEARWATER, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2016)—The USF softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday, falling to 2-7 on the year after dropping games to Oklahoma State and No. 12 Tennessee. In the second game, USF hung tight with Tennessee, falling just short of an upset of the 12th-ranked Volunteers.
Game 2: Tennessee 6, USF 4
After the Vols took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, a solo home run by Mia Fung in the bottom of the innings cut the lead in half. USF tied the game as starting pitcher Erica Nunn helped her own cause with an RBI single to plate Juli Weber in the third. Weber ended the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and two runs.
Tennessee took back the lead in the fourth, plating three runs on a solo home run and two RBI singles.
In the fifth, Weber reached on a walk before coming home on an Astin Donovan triple. Nunn reached on an error by the Vols' third baseman to allow Donovan to come home and put the Bulls within one as the inning ended.
Rainey Gaffin hit a solo home run to open the sixth inning and that was all the insurance Tennessee would need to secure the game. The Bulls battled hard in the seventh, putting runners at second and third, but the rally would fall short.
Nunn took the loss, but had one of her more impressive outings of the season. The senior gave up just three hits in her four innings of work while striking out a pair. In relief, Cheyenne Eggens gave up just one run on three hits in three innings in the circle.
