Box Score TAMPA, March 26, 2016 – Lee Ann Spivey hit her 32nd career home run and Kristen Wyckoff went 3-for-4 at the plate as the USF softball team downed ECU, 8-0, to sweep its first weekend of conference play.
The Bulls (29-9, 3-0 American) have now won 21-straight games and will finish the month of March with an impressive 22-1 record. USF is also the only undefeated team in conference play with a 3-0 record.
Spivey's eighth home run of the year gave USF a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Wyckoff hit a leadoff double and stole third, before recording her 25th run on Spivey's two-run blast. Spivey is now just five home runs away from breaking the USF all-time record, with 32 to her name and needing 37 to break it.
Lauren Evans recorded an RBI for her third straight game in the top of the second on an double to centerfield. Mia Fung led off the inning with a walk and showed her speed, stealing the Bulls' second base of the day. A walk and a fielder's choice would put runners on the corners and Wyckoff cleared the bases with her second hit of the day to make it 5-0 USF.
Juli Weber made it a 6-0 game in the fourth, driving in Wyckoff with a clutch two-out single for her first hit of the game. Weber now leads the team with 55 hits on the season and has hit safely in five straight games.
Evans added her second RBI of the day in the fifth on an RBI single, scoring Spivey. A fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the sixth would make it 8-0, as Mo Santos scored on the play.
Nunn (15-5) picked up the win after throwing 4.2 scoreless innings, lowering her ERA to 2.00. The senior struck out five and gave up just four hits in her second start of the weekend. For the weekend, Nunn struck out 22 batters, allowing just seven hits and one run (unearned).
Spivey would finish the day perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Wyckoff finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. As a team, the Bulls stole four bases and had a baserunner in every inning. USF scored in every inning except the third, when they stranded Spivey at first base.
The Bulls are back in action at the USF Softball Stadium for their second conference series, April 1-3, against Houston.
