Spivey Homers Twice in Series Win Over Memphis

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 16, 2016—Lee Ann Spivey hit her 34th and 35th career home runs and Erica Nunn threw a complete-game shutout as the No. 22/25 Bulls took the series from Memphis with a 3-0 win. The Bulls improved to 38-10 on the season and 10-1 in conference play, while the Tigers fell to 22-22 overall and 4-4 in conference.

Spivey would inch even closer to breaking the school record for career home runs with her tenth home run of the season in the fourth inning and her 11th of the season in the seventh.

In the fourth, Spivey launched a full-count pitch over the left field wall to put the Bulls up 2-0. In the seventh, she hit her team-leading 11th home run over the wall in right field to give USF the 3-0 lead. Spivey is now just two home runs away from breaking the USF all-time career home run record.

The Bulls struck first in the top of the third inning thanks to a two-out RBI double from Kristen Wyckoff. Cassidy Boyle reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a groundout by Astin Donovan. On the first pitch she saw, Wyckoff doubled down the right field line, plating Boyle from second to give the Bulls the lead.

Nunn was once again dominant in the circle, improving her record to 21-6. The senior threw her ninth complete game of the year, striking out 12 while allowing just four hits. Nunn has now thrown 26 scoreless innings and the pitching staff has combined for 30 scoreless.

The Bulls and Tigers will meet for the final game of the series Sunday, April 17, at noon. USF will travel to No. 1 Florida on Wednesday, April 20, for the final midweek game of the season.
