Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 17, 2016— Juli Weber and Lauren Evans went 2-for-4 at the plate and the Bulls received another dominant outing from the pitching staff as the USF softball team defeated Memphis, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Bulls to 39-10 on the season and 11-1 in conference action, while Memphis fell to 22-23, 4-5 in the American.
The Bulls have now won eight-straight games after a previous season-best of 23 straight wins. In that eight-game span, the Bulls have thrown seven shutouts and allowed just one run in 50 innings. The pitching staff has thrown 37 scoreless innings after giving up just a single run in the first game of the UConn series.
The Bulls broke open the game with a four-run fourth inning. USF loaded the bases with no outs on a single from Juli Weber and back-to-back walks issued to Lee Ann Spivey and Erica Nunn. Mo Santos hit a second-pitch RBI single through the right side, plating Weber and putting USF in the lead.
The scoring continued thanks to a Cassidy Boyle RBI groundout and a pair of RBI singles from Kenya Yancy and Astin Donovan. The Bulls used four hits and the pair of walks to plate the four runs in the inning.
Weber drove in a run in the seventh inning on an RBI double to centerfield. With two outs, Spivey hit the Bulls second double of the inning to drive home Weber and make it a 6-0 game. Amber Atkinson kept the two-out rally going with her second hit of the day, an RBI single, to plate pinch-runner Kassie Moeller from second base.
Susan Wysocki picked up her 11th win of the season, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings. Wysocki gave up just three hits and two walks, while striking out a pair. Cheyenne Eggens came in for the final 1.1 innings, allowing no runs and no hits.
USF will travel to No. 1 Florida on Wednesday, April 20, for the final midweek game of the season. The final conference road series of the season will be at Tulsa, April 22-24.
