Brian Lamb Named Chair Of USF Board Of Trustees

TAMPA, JUNE 2, 2016 – Brian Lamb, a very successful member of the USF men's basketball team from 1994-98, was elected chair of the University of South Florida Board of Trustees on Thursday.

Currently the regional president for Fifth Third Bank (North Florida), Lamb played four seasons for the Bulls under head coaches Bobby Paschal and Seth Greenberg and finished his career fifth on USF's career steals list with 158. The 1994-95 team, for which Lamb played as a freshman, posted an 18-12 record and won a pair of games in the NIT. Lamb went on to average 9.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore, 10.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg as a junior, and 7.7 ppg and 3.3 rpg in a senior season that saw the Bulls go 17-13.

“It's a privilege to assume this leadership role during a transformational time in USF history,” Lamb said. “I will remain focused on the university's primary goal of student success and preparing them for the competitive global workplace.”

Lamb joined Fifth Third Bank in December 2006 as the chief financial officer for Tampa Bay and later served as the head of Business Banking and Private Banking for the Tampa Bay market.  He is actively involved in several organizations in the community, including the Tampa Bay Partnership, Florida Council of 100 and Enterprise Florida.  Lamb has received numerous recognitions, including recently being inducted into the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame.  He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from USF and is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate Banking School at the University of Pennsylvania. 

 As USF Board of Trustees chair, Lamb will preside over board meetings, appoint members to the board's workgroups and committees, and is responsible for calling any special meetings of the board. He will serve a two-year term.

The USF Board of Trustees includes 13 members.  Six trustees are appointed by Florida's governor and five trustees are appointed by the Board of Governors. The USF System Faculty Council President and USF System Student Advisory Council President also serve as trustees.

USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men's and women's teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 competing at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls' athletic program is celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 having started with a men's soccer contest in 1965. Nearly 500 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of Tampa campus. The Bulls claimed five conference titles in their first two seasons in The American. Eight USF programs reached NCAA post-season competition in the 2014-15 season as USF posted an 83 percent Graduation Success Rate among student-athletes, with 182 earning conference all-academic recognition.
