USF Downs FIU, 3-2, in Overtime Thriller

Box Score

TAMPA (Aug. 21, 2016)— The USF women's soccer team stayed undefeated on the season after a thrilling, 3-2, overtime victory over FIU Sunday afternoon.

Just one minute into the overtime period, an own goal by FIU's Gudrun Hoskuldsdottir gave USF the golden goal victory. As Hoskuldsdottir was running toward her own goal, Trudi Carter made a beautiful cross that skimmed off Hoskuldsdottir's foot and past the FIU keeper.

After a slow start, the Bulls put the pressure on and secured back-to-back corner kicks in the first period. On the second corner, Hrabbo Hauksdottir connected with Lotta Fennefoss on a perfectly placed kick. Fennefoss managed to head the ball just past the FIU keeper giving USF the early advantage.

In the 52nd minute, Leticia Skeete notched her second goal of the season to give USF a two-goal lead. After a quick pass to Trudi Carter, a deflection off an FIU player allowed Skeete to charge past the defense and slip the ball just past the diving reach of the Panther's keeper.

The lead wouldn't last long as FIU came back with two quick goals in the 55th minute to tie the game at 2-all.

Quotable:

"I have dreamt about scoring for so long, because coach always tells us to visualize all of these moments. I just remember closing my eyes and I felt that I had the ball and I looked at it and saw it and I turned around and was screaming, I don't even remember it. I just was out of my mind. It was crazy. And the fact that we won this game, too is so amazing. I'm so happy." - Lotta Fennefoss
