Women’s Basketball Announces First Early Signee
TAMPA, NOV. 14, 2017 – University of South Florida women's basketball head coach
Jose Fernandez and his staff announced the first signee of his 2018 class Tuesday. International standout Iris Tsafara signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Bulls for the 2018-19 season.
"Iris fits our perimeter play needs in this class," said Fernandez. "She brings international experience along with high level club experience as well. It's exciting to bring another sound young lady into our Bulls family.".
Tsafara, a 6-0 wing from Athens, Greece, boasts experience with the U16 Greek National team. Tsafara led her team, the U18 Ikaros Kallitheas team, to the final four, where they finished second in the National A2 Division.
Tsafara grew up around the game of basketball. Her father, Kosta, currently practices medicine in Athens, but played professionally and coached in Greece. Tsafara plans to study Architecture at USF.

USF notched its fifth consecutive 20-win season. The Bulls tallied its 20th win in their 24th contest of the season which tied the fastest any program has reached 20 wins. This is the eighth 20-win season in program history and head coach Jose Fernandez has been at the helm for all eight 20-win seasons. The 2014-15 team reached 20 wins in 24 games, and still currently holds the best record for most wins in a season (27).
USF has made 13 postseason tournament appearances and had five NCAA Tournament berths in Head Coach Jose Fernandez's 17 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to eight 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship and won more than 300 games.
