Offense Explodes for McGill's Complete Game Shutout

Box Score

TAMPA (Feb. 25, 2017) – Kalen McGill tossed a six-inning, complete-game shutout and the USF offense exploded for a seven-run sixth inning, leading to a 10-0 victory over Colgate.

McGill threw the first complete game of the season for any USF pitcher, picking up her second win of the season. The junior allowed just three hits and one walk, while facing just four over the minimum.

The offense exploded in the sixth inning, taking advantage of free bases to give USF (8-4) the run-rule victory. The Bulls loaded the bases with no outs on a hit-by-pitch, walk, and error. Lindsey Devitt hit a two-RBI single, making it a 5-0 game.

Two sacrifice flies and a pair of hits would plate four more runs. After reloading the bases with back-to-back walks, Brooke Hartman drew a walk of her own for the final run of the inning.

USF struck in the first inning as Kristen Wyckoff led off with a four-pitch walk, stole second, advanced to third on an error and came home on a Bethaney Keen sacrifice fly.

In the third, USF plated another run on a bases-loaded walk. Lindsey Devitt led off with a walk and moved to second on an AnaMarie Bruni bunt single. Lauren Evans drew a walk with two outs to load the bases and Sam Worrell followed with a walk of her own to bring home Devitt and make it a 2-0 game.

Worrell would get her second RBI of the day in the fifth, plating Bruni on a sacrifice fly.
