TAMPA (March 14, 2017) – The USF softball team will host Jacksonville and Yale in a midweek doubleheader Wednesday, March 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Jacksonville game will be streamed live on the USF Softball Facebook page.
The Bulls are currently 16-11 and looking to extend their two-game win streak. USF is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Army and Central Connecticut State, posting 20 runs between the two games while allowing just three.
The Bulls are led by Kristen Wyckoff's .446 average and .482 slugging percentage. Astin Donovan and AnaMarie Bruni are the other top hitters for the Bulls, hitting .339 and .338, respectively. Bethaney Keen leads the team with seven extra-base hits and 31 total bases.
Hannah Parker leads the pitching staff in wins with a 6-3 record in 66 innings of work. Parker has 48 strikeouts on the season in 19 appearances. Cheyenne Eggens boasts the lowest ERA of the pitchers at 2.20. Eggens has allowed just 15 earned runs and walked just seven.
THE OPPONENTS
Jacksonville: The Dolphins are 16-10 on the season, but 0-4 away from their home field. As a team, JU is batting .283 with 17 home runs on the year. Heather Roberts and Madison Ragan have each posted four homers apiece.
The pitching staff has a 3.03 team ERA, led by a 1.73 ERA from Taylor Thorpe. Thorpe has thrown the bulk of innings for the Dolphins and is 7-2 on the year.
Yale: The Bulldogs are 1-8 on the year with the lone win coming over Western Michigan in Clearwater, Fla., as part of the USF Series. AS a team, they've scored just 19 runs and are batting .193. Shelby Kennedy leads the team with a .375 average on the season.
The pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.98, led by a 2.96 ERA from Terra Jerpbak in 23.2 innings of work.
QUICK HITTERS
· The Bulls have been almost perfect on the base paths, recording 30 stolen bases in 34 attempts.
· USF has hit 14 home runs this season with six players having at least two each.
· Ken Eriksen is just 21 wins away from his 900th career win, all coming at USF.
· Three freshmen have seen significant playing time this season, with AnaMarie Bruni, Bethaney Keen and Brooke Hartman all appearing in at least 15 games.
