Box Score TAMPA (April 21, 2017) – Down to its final strike, the USF softball team walked-off on an RBI single from AnaMarie Bruni to defeat Memphis, 4-3. The Bulls improved to 27-21, 6-6 American while the Tigers fell to 23-21, 4-6 American.
After Memphis took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning, the Bulls put together a rally, starting with a one-out single from Lauren Evans. After a popup put two outs on the board, Cassidy Boyle drew a walk and was replaced by Kenya Yancy on the base paths.
Facing a 3-2 count, Bruni singled up the middle, plating Evans and Yancy to give USF the 4-3 victory.
The Tigers took the lead in the second, plating a run on a two-out, bases-loaded walk. USF would waste no time answering back, using a sacrifice fly from Sam Worrell to tie the game in the bottom of the third.
The Bulls would use another sacrifice fly from Astin Donovan to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth. However, Memphis would strike back with an unearned run in the sixth to tie the game once again.
Key Stats
- Kristen Wyckoff was 4-for-4 on the day and a home run shy of hitting a natural cycle.
- Wyckoff, Evans and Bruni combined for eight of the Bulls nine hits.
- Hannah Parker earned the win, throwing 7.1 innings, scattering five hits and striking out four.
Notable
-The Bulls have now won four straight games against Memphis and allowed just three runs in the last 27 innings against the Tigers.
-Wyckoff is the second Bull to fall a hit shy of the cycle this season. Astin Donovan was a single shy against UConn on April 2.
