GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 22, 2018) – The USF softball team fell, 3-2, in Sunday's rubber match at ECU for its first American series loss.
After three scoreless innings, USF (32-18, 10-5) worked a single, a double and a triple to take a 2-0 lead. Senior
Astin Donovan (Guilford, Conn.) struck a perfectly placed triple down the right field line and was batted in on a single from junior
Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.). Devitt advanced on a sacrifice bunt on the next play, and junior
Samantha Worrell (Oviedo, Fla.) doubled to send Devitt home.
The Pirates (21-216, 7-8) responded in the bottom of the fifth with a 2-RBI homer over the right field fence to tie it up. The teams remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when the Pirates hit a walk-off single to score one and take the series.
