February 27, 2019 | Softball
TAMPA, FEB. 27, 2019 – Sophomore Georgina Corrick served up 12 strikeouts to match her career high in USF's 1-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast.
Due to weather, the USF (9-7) and FGCU (7-6) doubleheader dropped to just a single-game matchup on Wednesday night.
The Bulls jumped ahead in the first inning when junior AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) hit a shallow double to left that kicked into the dugout, advancing Bruni to third. Freshman Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field and scored Bruni for a 1-0 lead that the Bulls would never lose.
Corrick faced 29 batters, striking out 12 to hit double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time in her career. The Sanford, Fla., native walked just three batters in the win, two of which were intentional walks. She allowed just three hits in her second complete game this season and advanced her record to 6-1.
